Hourly Movers

If you’re moving, you’re probably contemplating whether or not to hire movers. Once you’ve decided upon hiring movers, you need to choose between flat rate or hourly movers. Hourly and flat rate movers vary by different pricing structures. Because of this variance, some are better suited to different types of moves than others. It’s important to look at your move as your own, and not compare it to other people’s moves. Just because you might know someone that chose hourly or flat rate for their move, does not necessarily mean their choice will work for your more. There are advantages and disadvantages to both flat rate and hourly movers, and we tell you more about both of them below.

Most moving companies offer hourly movers for your moving services, and this is especially true for a majority of local moves. The price that’s charged per hour for your move, the time of year and even the actual day of your move will affect the price. You might be wondering why it is important to even be conscientious of the day you are moving. This is important because hourly moving rates come with a drive time charge, meaning the hourly movers will start the clock when the driver calls to confirm that they are on their way. Most of the time your hourly movers will not be more than 30 minutes away; however, traffic can definitely affect this travel time, and the last thing you want is to plan a move during rush hour or a very busy traffic day.

Working with hourly movers is great if you’re planning to pack your house yourself, or if you are moving to or from a small apartment. You do not want to hire hourly movers if you’re moving from a large home or if you want them to pack and unpack all of your belongings. If this is the case, you’re better off hiring flat rate movers for this type of job. Hourly moving rates usually start at a minimum of three hours, and for comparison a smaller move can take about 3-4 hours if the moving company sends the right number of people to do the job.

To get a feel for how much an hourly move actually costs, it can cost about $25 per hour, per mover. This equates to about $100-$150 an hour for a team of 4-5 movers. If you’re worried about your moving costs getting too high, you should ask your moving company if they are able to cap the cost at a certain amount.

In order to get the most accurate estimate of how much your move is going to cost, you should research different moving companies to make sure your estimates are accurate and reliable. However, this can be very time consuming. At Match Up Movers, we know how important your time is. When you tell us everything about your move, we’ll determine if and which hourly movers are right for you.
