Binding Price Movers
There are two types of estimates you can get from moving companies. One of the estimates is a binding estimate. A binding estimate is one that’s guaranteed when you first get quoted, even if your shipment weighs more than the estimated amount. However, there are rules when it comes to a binding estimate. The first rule defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association (FMCSA) is that the binding estimate must accurately describe the shipment, and all of the services that the company will provide. Should you decide to ask for additional services, the moving company will be required to charge you separately. However, it should be noted that binding price movers cannot charge you more than the amount of the binding estimate on moving day.
The binding estimate must be in writing, and a copy must be made and given to you before you move. Along with receiving a copy of the binding estimate, it must be paid in full by cash, check, card or money order at the time of your delivery. Some moving companies will allow you to pay before moving day, but that is up to each individual binding price moving company. Should you not be able to pay for the binding estimate, your items will be placed in storage and those fees also become your responsibility.
Come moving day, it is of utmost importance that you do not have any extra belongings than what the binding price movers agreed to move. If you do have more stuff than initially agreed upon, the mover can refuse service on moving day. To avoid any trouble, make sure you’re sticking to the binding agreement both parties agreed to before moving day. Once the moving company has agreed to move all of your stuff, they should confirm the binding estimate. You want to do your best to avoid any add-ons because it can lead to a higher-priced move, or it can result in not having a mover on moving day. Once all of your stuff has been loaded onto the truck by the binding price movers, they have officially agreed to the binding estimate, no additional costs can be added, and no more changes can be made.
Binding price movers are great if you’re looking to know what your move is going to cost up front. However, if you’re someone that does not like to plan in advance or is very indecisive, hiring a binding moving company might not be the best option for you. Sometimes, a binding estimate can sort of hurt people in the end, because they don’t realize how strict a binding estimate actually is.
